The function of this bridge was to connect two population centers that separated the stream: Santa Maria and Sant Mart\u00ed de Merl\u00e8s. Traditionally, like many other bridges, it was said to be the work of the devil and it was related to the Pedra Dreta de Llu\u00e7\u00e0, which according to legend is a stone that fell to the devil while he was transporting it from Llu\u00e7\u00e0 to Merl\u00e8s for the construction of the bridge and there it stayed.<\/p>\n<h3>The Castle of Merl\u00e8s<\/h3>\n<p>Explore the medieval castles in the area such as Castell de Merl\u00e8s. These castles, located in strategic points and with privileged views, tell us stories of battles, conquests and the daily life of the time. The construction date of Merl\u00e8s Castle is roughly in the 9th century, as it is first documented in 893 in the act of consecration of the church of Santa Maria de Merl\u00e8s. Currently the state of conservation is very bad, it is in ruins and only one wall is preserved. In fact, oral tradition says that many houses in the village could be made of stones taken from this castle.
